Northern Roll roller Ski Series 2024 – final event in Lancaster

Lakeland club hosted the final of the four Northern Roll Roller Ski Race Series events at Salt Ayre Cycle Track, Lancaster, on Sunday 1 September.

The series is made up of four events, each hosted by a different cross-country ski club in the North of England.

This year’s events were:

·       #1 Preston, hosted in Manchester Cross Country Ski Club in May
·         #2 York, hosted by Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club in June
·         #3 Hartlepool, hosted by Tyneside Loipers in August
·         #4 Lancaster, hosted by Lakeland Cross Country Ski Club in September

Each event lasts one hour and involves skiers trying to complete as many laps of a cycle circuit as they can in that time.

The winners and runners up of the individual Lancaster event (race #4) were:

  • 1st female – Isla Birch (junior), British Biathlon Union, 14 laps
  • 2nd female – Helen Bell, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 13 laps
  • 3rd female – Sarah Foy, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 9 laps

  • 1st open – Watson Peel, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 15 laps
  •  2nd open – Lucas Rhodes (junior), Manchester Cross Country Ski Club, 14 laps
  •  3rd open – Edward Prentice (junior), Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 14 laps

In the overall Northern Roll Roller Ski Series, we saw:

Seniors

  • 1st female – Helen Bell, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 61.15km
  • 2nd female – Deb Johnston, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 45.45km
  •  3rd female – Sarah Lewthwaite, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 42.05km

  • 1st open – Michael Smith, Lakeland Cross Country Ski Club, 59.65k
  •  2nd open – Piotr Kepa, Manchester Cross Country Ski Club, 58.40km
  •  3rd open – Martin Appleby, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 58.15km

Juniors

  •       1st female – Isla Birch, British Biathlon Union, 17.50km
  •       1st open – Edward Prentice, Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Ski Club, 53.10km
